Key Responsibilities

Vision Casting

  • In consultation with the diocesan visioning, create a strategic communications plan that directly supports the stated needs of the diocese, both from within the office and from outside of it.
  • Build a systematic structure to implement each aspect of the strategic communications plan, collaborating with the communications team, other diocesan staff, and congregational leaders.
  • Resource the bishop in communications about contemporary needs and issues, both within and beyond the Church.

Managing Implementation

  • Create a process for identifying and telling the stories of the parishes and their people, recognizing the importance of good storytelling that returns to help discern diocesan mission and narrative.
  • Prepare for and engage in crisis communications, as needed.
  • Oversee the implementation of a social media strategy, created as part of the larger communications plan.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in Episcopal church and/or diocesan communications work
  • Proven ability to think strategically about culture and systems
  • Crisis communications experience
  • Collaborative

  • Connector
  • A deep understanding of the Episcopal church and role/function of the diocese to equip congregations and leaders for ministry
