|St. Christopher’s Cathedral|
|St Christopher’s Cathedral was consecrated as the parish church in 1953, rehallowed as the Pro-Cathedral in the Gulf in 1982 and elevated to full cathedral status by episcopal mandate in 1986.
It is set in a large compound in the centre of Bahrain’s capital, Manama, which also hosts ancillary worship rooms built since 1953, and a walled garden where the Deanery is located.
The cathedral serves three English-language Anglican congregations of many nationalities, cultures and social groups; and a Tamil-language Anglican congregation led by the Assistant Chaplain. The parish also includes the Anglican congregation which worships in the community church in Awali.
This senior post calls for an experienced priest, with a proven record, comfortable within a diversity of Christian traditions and ethnicities, and able to present the Anglican Church and St Christopher’s Cathedral sensitively yet effectively before the greater community in Bahrain.
All the congregations value a sound liturgical grounding and good preaching. Bishop Michael Lewis and the Bahrain Anglican Church Council seek to welcome someone with a gracious personality, able to offer direction and leadership, inspire a vibrant lay-led young people’s ministry, and mentor those exploring their faith.
The Anglican Church is involved in many aspects of society in Bahrain. The new Dean will continue good practice by being ready to engage thoughtfully in ecumenical and interfaith relationships and to maintain and develop excellent contacts with various official and voluntary bodies and organisations.
The successful candidate will be offered: stipend, pension scheme contributions, medical insurance, housing, car, annual leave economy flight tickets, and schooling for up to 3 children (if applicable).
