Job Title
Curate (or Assistant Rector)
Name of church or organization
St. Episcopal Paul’s Church
Bedford, MA
Job Description
WHO WE ARE: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located in Bedford, MA (in Boston’s metro-west region) and part of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, is a spiritually and socially active Christian community that celebrates our faith and strives to be a place of welcome, comfort, challenge, and strength for all people.  Our liturgical style is joyful, informal, multi-generational, and reverent, drawing from a variety of authorized worship resources within The Episcopal Church and other Anglican Communion churches.  Our parish is a highly relational one, with pastoral and programmatic interactions occurring frequently in both structured and casual settings.  We like to bless things, make music and merriment, do projects and ministry, pray together, play with children, garden, advocate, learn, celebrate, partner with neighbors near and far, solve problems, visit our elders, serve the community, and occasionally dance!

POSITION DESCRIPTION: St. Paul’s seeks to call a part-time curate who is newly or soon-to-be ordained in The Episcopal Church.  Working with the rector in various aspects of liturgical, pastoral, programmatic, and administrative leadership, this call is intended as a training position for a newer priest seeking to develop practical wisdom, skills, and capacities, while also contributing to the life of a joyful, kind-hearted, high-energy suburban congregation.  NOTE – for a more experienced priest feeling called to part-time work, we would consider re-shaping the position to the assistant level.

We imagine God is calling to this position someone whose faith is a source of joy to them, who is curious about people and their spirituality, and who is committed to life-long learning and growth in themselves and others.  We seek someone who shares the values of our three Strategic Priorities: to cultivate intergenerational fellowship through shared ministries; to awaken and respond more fully to the realities of oppression and liberation in the world; to nourish our holy curiosities about God.   We are seeking someone who will engage fully in the spiritual formation of children and those who care for them, and will help develop and facilitate our formational offerings for families with younger children.

In support of the curate’s ministry, we are able to offer: opportunities to try out an authentic range of preaching voices and liturgical leadership styles; coaching in the practical wisdom of parish leadership; mentoring in program development and pastoral care; support in developing good boundaries, self-care, and community care practices; exposure to and increasing responsibility for a broad range of parish ministries and activities.  We look forward to learning from you, as you learn from us!
