The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island is  seeking a full-time, hands-on Controller to manage its internal and external financial reporting and general accounting operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the accounting system and financial books of record for the Diocese, whose financial size is approximately $50 million in assets with a $5 million operating budget
• Processing accounts payable and receivable and preparing related checks and deposits
• Staffing monthly meetings of the volunteer Commission on Finance
• Supporting operations of the Diocesan Investment Trust and the use of endowment accounts within applicable restrictions
• Coordinating payroll, benefits, and insurance programs’ management with outside service providers
• Generating reliable monthly budget-to-actual reports for leaders’ decision-making, annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for audit purposes, and required annual financial reports to the national church
• Maintaining good lines of communication with church clergy, bookkeepers, and volunteer treasurers

This position reports to the chief financial officer and is presently supported by a part-time bookkeeper and board-level treasurer.
