Job Description
St Mary’s Episcopal Day School seeks a dynamic Chaplain for all grade levels (PK-8).

St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School is a co-educational Episcopal day school located in Tampa, Florida serving approximately 450 children in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. At St. Mary’s, we pride ourselves on offering an environment that is both nurturing and challenging to our students. Students graduate with a strong, well-rounded foundation in academics, athletics, visual and performing arts, technology, World Language, religion, public speaking, and community service.

The Chaplain is responsible for defining, preserving, and promoting St. Mary’s School’s Episcopal identity to our PreK-8th grade community of students, parents, faculty, and staff. The Chaplain will act as a liaison between St. Mary’s School and St. Mary’s Church and will work in collaboration with school faculty and administration and the Church Rector and Vestry to promote a comprehensive spiritual experience.   The Chaplain will promote a respectful working environment with his/her team and across the entire faculty and church.  Participation is required in regular student support team meetings, spiritual life meetings, and full faculty meetings.

Preferred Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • Ordained Episcopal priest. Licensed to function and perform sacerdotal ministry and maintain good standing within the Diocese of Southwest Florida under the direction of the Diocesan Bishop.
  • Preferred 2-4+ years demonstrated experience working as a school chaplain.
  • Ability to work effectively, with understanding of students, families, and colleagues of diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn, with proficiency in digital literacy, software applications, Google Classroom/docs and other web-based applications, database, and videoconferencing experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, sensitivity and confidentiality in dealing with difficult situations, knowledge of compliance with law and best practice.
