|Norton Hospital was founded by a sewing circle from St. Pauls’s Episcopal Church. The Louisville-based not-for-profit system includes five Louisville hospitals with 1,837 licensed beds; seven outpatient centers; 14 Norton Immediate Care Centers; more than 14,000 employees; more than 850 employed medical providers; and approximately 2,000 total physicians on its medical staff.
The chaplains at Norton Healthcare contribute to the holistic provision of care and dissemination of God’s love throughout the organization by means of effective pastoral visitation, care and support of patients and families; responsiveness to religious, spiritual and emotional requirements of patients, families and staff; collegiality and consultation with and care of staff; the proactive development of programs that nurture and improve life of internal and external guests; assisting with the education program for CPE residents, interns and other pastoral students learning the caring art.
Norton Chaplains are integrated members of the care teams throughout all 5 hospitals and the medical group. The pastoral care team is comprised of 2 directors, 1 manager, 17 staff chaplains, 7 FT CPE residents, and 3-7 interns in each CPE unit. This team provides 24/7 on-call coverage (including pediatric trauma), unit based coverage, pediatric bereavement follow-up, palliative care consultation, and staff care. As a part of the role, this chaplain will give particular attention to the Episcopal patients in the five hospitals of the Norton Healthcare system.
