Job Description

The Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real seeks a Canon to the Ordinary to work in the areas of Transition Ministry, Leadership Development, and Administration.

The Canon must be a solid team player, creative and willing to adapt to many circumstances in a multi-cultural environment, with large and small church communities, urban and rural.  The Canon must be able to travel, communicate well, and desire to be connected with people of the diocese.

This is a full-time position; ordained and bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Duties of the Position

In partnership with the Bishop:

• Attend to pastoral needs of clergy and their families
• Guide clergy and parish transitions
• Arrange and coordinate Clergy Education and Retreats
• Adapt diocesan structures to being “New Church”
• Work toward compliance with Canons and licensing requirements
• Preside and preach regularly at parishes throughout the diocese

In partnership with Leadership, lay and ordained

• Create and implement curriculum for lay leadership trainings.
• Partner with the Dean of the Iona Collaborative to engage local formation for ordination.
• Travel to parishes to meet and foster relationship with Sargent House
• Connect congregations with each other
• Assist congregations with expanding missional opportunities in their communities
• Design and lead vestry retreats to enable leadership to meet the needs of a changing, pilgrim church
• Ensure that events and trainings are held in the languages of the people

In partnership with Staff:

• Foster a team-oriented approach to work.
• Help to meet deadlines and completion of projects
• Attend Staff meetings and share facilitation
• Coordinate staff events and retreats

Salary and Benefits

Salary and Housing:  $100,000 per year-negotiable based on experience

Medical and Dental Plan: Clergy + one/negotiable

Pension Plan: according to CPG standards

Continuing Education:  $1,000 and two weeks/year

Vacation:  30 days/year, including no more than 4 Sundays
