Job Description
Position Description: The Canon for Mission Finance & Operations collaborates with Bishops and Canons to manage ECCT’s resources to further God’s Mission in communities throughout Connecticut. Resource deployments are reflected in the Annual Budget of Convention and in grant disbursements from ECCT’s Balance Sheet. The Canon for Mission Finance & Operations is also responsible for the management and disposition of properties held by ECCT and for establishing risk management arrangements for ECCT and ECCT parishes. The Canon for Mission Finance and Operations monitors the financial health of ECCT and its parishes, and reports periodically on this topic to ECCT leadership, recommending corrective actions and new policies as appropriate. The Canon for Mission Finance & Operations is also responsible for promoting the adoption and utilization of prudent financial management practices by ECCT and ECCT parishes and for promoting compliance with ECCT and Episcopal Church canons that relate to financial management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Episcopal Church in Connecticut
• Serve as part of ECCT leadership team (Bishops and Canons) with Bishop Diocesan, Bishop Suffragan, and other Canons
• Facilitate development of the Annual Budget of Convention, incorporating input from Bishops and Canons on program expenses and estimating operating revenues and soliciting input and guidance from Mission Council and Finance Committee members
• Manage and enhance financial operating procedures (transaction processing, asset management and reporting)
• Evaluate and document assessments of requests for financial support, property encumbrances and alienations in support of ECCT’s Bishops and Standing Committee
• Promote full utilization of ECCT financial resources to promote the mission of God in Connecticut while honoring the wishes and instructions of the original benefactors of these resources
• Serve as an Officer (Treasure) of Donations and Bequests for Church Purposes, Inc.
• Facilitate parish compliance with ECCT and Episcopal Church canons with respect to finance.
• Oversees and coordinate the work of the Insurance Board
• Facilitate and empower the work of the Finance Committee of the Mission Council
• Develop and maintain means for ECCT staff to access information that will help them fulfill their duties (e.g., parishes’ clergy compensation capacity, Good Standing status, parish visitation preparation)
• Assist with development (content and structure) of ECCT-wide gatherings (e.g., Annual Convention, Quarterly Leadership Meetings, Annual Lay Leadership Training, etc.)

2. Parishes
• Assist parish clergy and lay leaders to address financial management strategic initiatives and challenges
• Update and publish the Treasurers’ Newsletter each fall to assist parishes in budgeting for the new year
• Conduct training sessions to provide Treasurers with capacity to budget and report financial performance, and to comply with church canons
