|All Saints Church, a 4,000 member Episcopal Church in Pasadena, CA, is looking for a full-time associate rector who will work as part of a creative team to provide focus and leadership to the congregation’s work of dismantling White supremacy and anti-Black racism and building Beloved Community.
The creation of this position is part of All Saints Church’s core commitment to becoming actively anti-racist demonstrated in All Saints 2021 budget and organizational restructuring. Other initial pieces of this commitment include funded efforts to:
*Establish a “Movement Architecture Program” to birth effective movements for racial justice with a cohesive, multifaith theological foundation.
*Study the history of and recommend changes to the aesthetics of the church worship space, particularly our stained-glass windows, to bring them in line with our core values of Radical Inclusion, Courageous Justice, Joyful Spirituality and Ethical Stewardship.
*Study the story of the land the church sits on and how it relates to the Tongva Nation and recommend necessary reparative actions.
*Study the possibilities for where the church’s wealth resides with an eye toward using credit unions and/or Black & Brown owned financial institutions.
We seek someone who is highly motivated and creative to help shape these efforts and share in leadership in designing more. Our goal is individual and community transformation that can be a model for other communities of faith. We are clear that this work is not the responsibility of this or any one person but responsibility and opportunity for the entire congregation and wider community.
“All Saints Church has a long history of commitment to justice … and history is not enough,” says the Rev. Mike Kinman, All Saints Church rector. “The only way to make this work of dismantling racism and building Beloved Community really is through a significant commitment of resources, and that is what we are doing.”
“Our staff and vestry is committed to this work. We are eager to bring on an Associate Rector who can work with us to bring this vision to reality.”
