Job Description
Trinity is seeking a priest or deacon to share in the spiritual, pastoral, and practical leadership of the congregation, working to enable all to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and share in Christ’s ministry of reconciliation. The Associate Rector will provide primary staff leadership for youth ministry, and at least one other primary ministry of the congregation.

Role and Responsibilities:

Trinity has about 50 youth in middle and high school drawn from about 250 families. The children and youth in our congregation currently participate in Rite 13 and Journey to Adulthood classes, choirs for children and adults, family-oriented service projects, and as acolytes and lectors in worship.

As the primary staff leader for youth ministry, the Associate Rector will

  • Work with youth, volunteer leaders, and parents to develop existing classes and activities into a comprehensive program for youth ministry from middle school through high school, focused on forming lifelong disciples of Jesus.
  • Develop and expand fellowship and service opportunities for Trinity youth.
  • Support and resource the existing Journey to Adulthood youth curriculum, or lead transition to another teaching and formation model; recruit, train and support classroom teachers for youth classes.
  • Support recent graduates of Trinity’s youth program in making adult connections with a community of faith, within or beyond Trinity.
  • Work closely with Trinity’s Sunday School Superintendent (part time) to integrate youth and children’s programming with one another and with adult programming.
  • Ensure compliance with safe church guidelines for all youth and children’s programming and events.

The Associate’s portfolio will also include primary staff leadership for outreach or pastoral care ministries of the congregation, depending on the gifts of the Associate.

For Outreach

  • Support and resource Outreach Committee volunteers in leading service and giving opportunities for the congregation. Trinity provides financial support and other donations to eight local charities. Parishioners volunteer through the church at two meal programs in Camden.
  • Manage small in-house food pantry
  • Coordinate twice yearly events (Christmas and summer) to provide relief, refreshment, and joy to our neighbors in need. In recent years, Trinity has been supporting 18-20 families with Christmas gifts and a summer outing.
  • Work with Moorestown Ministerium to coordinate local efforts to relieve hunger and economic need in our neighborhood.
  • Seek out, develop, and promote hands-on service opportunities for Trinity parishioners of all ages.

For Pastoral Care

  • Lead clergy and lay volunteers in strengthening the connections of care among members of the congregation, with special focus on connecting those who are prevented by age or illness from joining regular worship and fellowship.
  • Conduct regular visits to “shut-in” parishioners (approximately 30 households), both at home and in retirement communities
  • Direct and support lay eucharistic visitors; coordinate and support volunteer and clergy connections with vulnerable members.

In addition, the Associate will share with the Rector in the sacramental, liturgical, and spiritual leadership of the church, regularly preaching and leading worship, teaching, preparing people for and administering the sacraments of the church, counseling, and supporting lay leaders across the varied ministries of the church.

Trinity clergy and staff are encouraged to take on leadership in the diocese or wider church as part of their responsibilities to the congregation, and expected to attend to their own ongoing spiritual formation and growth in the context of their work.
