Job Description
Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, WI is a growing congregation on Madison’s Capitol Square. We are a diverse community made up of people of all ages and from various ethnic, national, sexual orientation and religious backgrounds. We have a passion for outreach, operating a food pantry for more than 40 years, and since 1984 providing space for a men’s homeless shelter. We are committed to social justice, with parishioners active in criminal justice reform and leading anti-racism programs for the congregation and the broader community. We have a passion for music, worship, and liturgy, with a strong music program and a monthly concert series that offers programs from bluegrass to classical for the larger community. Our Christian Formation program is growing, with additional classes for children added this year and two lay-led bible studies that meet weekly.

We seek an Associate Rector to help us deepen our relationships with Jesus Christ, with one another, and with our neighbors. Our Associate Rector will be a gifted preacher, a skilled liturgist, a careful listener, and an eager evangelist. He/she will participate fully in the liturgical and pastoral life of the congregation, preaching twice a month, and will be comfortable working with all age groups.

Depending on the Associate Rector’s gifts, skills, and experience, he/she may take leadership in the following areas:
• Pastoral Care: in cooperation with the Rector, Deacon, Pastoral Care Committee, and Healing Prayer team, coordinate pastoral care for members of the congregation and oversee the Eucharistic Visitors;
• Christian Formation: working with the Christian Formation Director and volunteers, strengthen and expand programming for all ages, particularly for youth and young families;
• Outreach: working with the existing Mission and Outreach Committee and related committees including the Creating More Just Community Taskforce, strengthen current programs and develop new opportunities to engage the larger community in social justice;
• Evangelism: encouraging and assisting Grace Church to connect with our neighbors and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ beyond the walls of our church;
• Liturgy: working with the Rector and music staff, craft and oversee liturgical life and supervise acolytes and other service ministers.
