Associate for Formation and Transition Ministry – Diocese of Los Angeles

The Diocese of Los Angeles is seeking an experienced English-Spanish bilingual priest, who shares a passion for discernment and formation, and the process needed for that work. The person called will work as an integral member of the ministry team in the office and will work with both clergy and lay leaders across all the congregations and ministries of the diocese.

The primary focus of this position will be the coordination of the Diocesan Discernment Process for lay and ordained ministries in direct consultation with the Bishop’s Office and the Commission on Ministry. Ongoing support of the Commission on Ministry. Provide oversight of process for nominees, postulants and candidates and ensure they are properly prepared for each step of the ordination process in conjunction with the Commission on Ministry and the Canons. Make provisions for all meetings of COM (Formation Retreats, Bishops Dinner in Feb. etc.) for the calendar year.  Maintain calendar of COM functions for a three-year period or as new direction is given. The work involves creation and maintenance of the process files as well as creating the digital files needed for online reading. A computer proficiency is essential for this work.

As a member of the Office of Formation and Transition Ministry Team the person chosen will share in consultation for the planning and execution of the diocesan Annual Clergy Conference. It will involve sharing responsibility for developing hotel contracts, accommodations and meal planning for the conference and all other necessary items as needed for this conference (name tags, agendas, maps and schedules, etc.)

They will assist with congregational Story Day’s, Ministry Reviews, and process work, especially in our Latinx parishes during their transition time.

The Associate for Formation and Transition Ministry will work under the direction of the Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles, The Rev. Canon Melissa McCarthy, Canon to the Ordinary, and The Rev. Thomas Quijada-Discavage, Interim for Formation and Transition Ministry. The Associate’s work will be based at St. Paul’s Commons, located in Los Angeles, CA, and will include regular travel across the Diocese. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
