At The Big Provincial Gathering
July 12-13, Kalamazoo, Michigan
There is still time to register to join hundreds of Episcopalians of all ages who will gather at the Big Provincial Gathering (BPG) July 12 -13 to learn about innovative mission and ministry.
Sponsored by Province V of the Episcopal Church, the Big Provincial Gathering (BPG) has been developed for the Episcopalians from the 14 dioceses of Province V (and a variety of other dioceses and the Church Center) to learn about ministries within and around the province and wider church, to share knowledge, and to support one another in new initiatives.
BGP will feature keynote speaker, the Rev. Lorenzo Lebrija from TryTank, an innovative venture from General Theological Seminary and Virginia Theological Seminary.
The more-than 60 workshops will focus on key topics of ministry with presenters hailing from across the church. Among the 29 workshop themes are: Advocacy/Justice; Care for Creation; Children’s Ministries; Communications; Congregational Development; Diocesan Leadership; Dismantling Racism; Evangelism/Church Planting; God Acting Locally; Lay Ministries; Liturgical Ministries; Music; Welcome/Hospitality; Women’s Ministries; Yarn ministry; Young Adult.
Music will be provided by well-known artists including Sandra Montes, known for her musical/translator/bilingual skills; and Rafeal McDaniel, Gospel choir director, performer and vocalist.
Children are encouraged to attend. A nursery for infants and toddlers is provided. There is a children’s program for preschool and elementary ages. Middle and High School youth are invited to participate in the plenary and workshop programs or volunteer with the children’s program.
The event will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. While St Luke’s will serve as the home base, other downtown churches and organizations will host workshops. Located near each other, all buildings are handicapped accessible.
Transportation among the churches will be provided by golf cart for attendees in need of assistance.
The $75 registration – $50 for children and youth up to age 18 – includes breakfast and lunch on both days plus handouts and materials. Special dietary needs will be accommodated.
Financial assistance is available. Housing is available at a variety of hotels, camping facilities, or with local hosts. Registration info is here: https://www.provincev.org/bpgreg.html
There is no guarantee for meals or seats for registrations received after July 1.
