|St Thomas Episcopal Church in Dallas, Oregon is launching a two-part series of discussions on racism beginning September 17. The Thursday Conversations will be held via Zoom to attendees that desire to have honest, thoughtful, safe conversations about race. Each Thursday conversation will take place from 5 pm – 6:30 pm Pacific time.
Part One of the series will be held from September 17 to December 10 (except Thanksgiving) and will address topics about “How Do We Talk About Racism?” Weekly topics include white supremacy, the Civil Rights Movement, racial triggers for white people, white fragility in action, and a lot more.
Part Two of the series begins January 7, 2021 and ends March 4, 2021 and includes conversations around “Understanding White Privilege”. Topics during this series will examine implicit bias, racial stereotypes, cultural appropriation, and more.
Both series will be co-facilitated by Fr. Fred Heard, vicar of St. Thomas and Gregory Willeford, criminal justice professor at Western Oregon University and former deputy superintendent of the Oregon State Police. Special guests will be present throughout the series.There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome for all the conversations, a few, or as many as personal schedules allow.
