Swanland, Matthews are Leaders for Kanuga Christian Formation

The Rev. Callie Swanlund and Dr. Westina Matthews will serve as retreat leaders for Kanuga Christian Formation, to be held in person June 13-16, 2022.

The retreat’s theme is “Such A Time Is This” (Esther 4:14). Workshops will be built around the three key areas: Renewal of Mind, Renewal of Body, and Renewal of Spirit.

The Rev. Callie Swanlund is an Episcopal priest serving in Philadelphia, helping others Find their Spark, and building a creative ministry. She leads individuals and groups in the work of Dr. Brené Brown as a Certified Daring Way Facilitator. Callie is a creator and dreamer who has created a virtual and traveling space—The Epiphany Space—for others to discover and use their creative gifts, and learn the digital tools to tell their story.

Dr. Westina Matthews is an author, public speaker, professor, and strategic corporate consultant whose practice reflects contemplative living. She will bring her broad experience in education, community relations, philanthropy, business development, and diversity to us as we contemplate and prepare for our service to one another.

Serving as retreat chaplain is The Rev. Ryan Hawthorne, a recently ordained deacon in the Diocese of Texas whose focus is on exploring ministry and theology on the edge and at the intersections of race, class, and gender/sexuality.

The retreat musician is composer, song leader, and group facilitator Ana Hernandez, who works to strengthen community ties across cultural differences.
