|Lay-monastic mini-preaching festival|
|Community of the Gospel (CG) members anchor monastic life in their baptismal covenant. They promise to “proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ” (BCP, 305).
Monastic preaching has been a constant feature of monastic practice for more than 2,000 years. Several of the orders that have engaged in proclamation over the centuries have been the Franciscans, Lombards, Dominicans, and Redemptorists.
Due to modern internet technologies, the CG is now able to key into monastic preaching traditions. As part of its on-going formation for Members and Friends of the Community, the Community of the Gospel will host a three session mini-preaching festival on Saturdays: May 22, 29 and June 5 via Zoom from 12 Noon until 1 PM EDT. The three preachers are lay monastics who are called to proclaim the Word. They are Br. Michael-Jude Mortimer, CG, of Nassau, Bahamas (May 22); Sr. Rebecca Anne Cooper, CG, of Lexington, KY (May 29); and Kevin Saunders, Nov/CG, of Arlington, VA.
Each one hour session will include: prayer, music, Scripture reading, homily, and contemplative response from guests from TEC, the Presbyterian Church, and the United Methodist Church.
The series is free of charge and open to everyone. A virtual donation basket will be made available to those who wish to make a contribution in any amount. Advance registration on Doodle is requested: https://doodle.com/poll/uc2yc5vxi9kfq9dt?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link
