Description or summary | |
![]() Organized by season and week of the liturgical year, Planning for Rites and Rituals offers congregational and other worship planners comprehensive week-by-week content and ideas for liturgy and music, preaching, and visuals, shaped by the Revised Common Lectionary, the Book of Common Prayer, the church year, and the assembly gathered around word and sacrament. Editors Nancy Bryan, Sharon Ely Pearson, and Milton Brasher-Cunningham worked with a diverse group of contributors to create a resource made up of a wide range of thought-provoking, creative options for Sundays and holy days throughout the liturgical year. The result is a planning resource grouped by liturgical season and date. Included are ways to engage a range of ages as well as help “seeing” the images in each week’s scripture. It also contains hymn suggestions keyed to the lectionary and brief introductions to each week’s scripture readings. Each season begins with a “Preparing for . . . ” section followed by “Seasonal Rites” which offers expansive ideas for worship within or outside the primary Sunday service. Following these two overview documents, every Sunday’s set of resources offers everything needed for putting together a Sunday (or holy day) service as well as other ideas for formation and community engagement within and beyond your church doors. Weekday Commemorations occurring during a season are noted by day of the week and date, with shortened biographies of individuals being remembered. |
