[World Council of Churches] As Bread for the World marked 70 years of service to the church and ecumenism through its interchurch scholarships program, World Council of Churches general secretary the Rev. Jerry Pillay gave thanks for some 3,500 alumni and beneficiaries since 1952.

“Education is a basic human right that works to raise men and women out of poverty, level inequalities, and ensure sustainable development,” Pillay said in a message. “Education is a steppingstone to other fundamental human rights.”
