I truly thank God (and the cardiac specialist and surgeon) that the dual news of Obama and Curry
came after my quadruple bypass surgery or my poor worn-out heart would have surely conked out with all that news. During my lifetime of 78 years… MERCY ! and THANK YOU LORD GOD ALMIGHTY !

My husband joins me in thanking the House of Bishops and the Lay Representatives of the Episcopal Church on the election of our 1st. African American Presiding Bishop.
We also were delighted to hear the letter of congratulations from President Barack Obama.
Now comes the nitty gritty hard work of fully supporting our new Presiding Bishop in his task, together with us all, in proclaiming and living the great commandment of Jesus to love God and our neighbors as ourselves…..perhaps the hardest objective to accomplish, but this we must do if we are to make any imprint for lasting good on our fractured and polarized world.
    Sincerely
    Iris R. Slocombe

    Bishop Elect Curry,
My sincere congratulations to your future years as Presiding Bishop. I am pleased for you and send my very best wishes. You were in Buffalo as a youth and my brother-in-law (Elton Smith) and sister(Jill) remember you well. There are changes to face in the Church and thus far, most have resulted in positive endorsement from our parishioners here at St. Peter’s, Oxford, MS. May you have God’s grace as you walk the journey with your spiritual guidance to all of us.
