RIP: Texas priest Joe Chambers dies in car collision

Posted Jul 16, 2013

[Episcopal Diocese of Texas] The Rev. Joe M. Chambers, 76, was killed tragically on Friday, July 12 in a head-on car collision just north of Trinity, Texas. The other driver also was killed. Chambers was the associate priest at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Tomball. A memorial service is pending there. Please keep Joe’s wife Carol and the Chambers family in your prayers as well as the family of the other victim.

Chambers was licensed in the Diocese of Texas and canonically resident in the Diocese of Mississippi. He formerly served as an assistant at Holy Comforter, Spring, under the Rev. Steve Ferguson, and at St. Dunstan’s, Houston, under the Rev. Rob Price, before retiring “for good” and going to Good Shepherd, where he assisted in services from time to time. He also did supply work for small parishes in East Texas, including, most recently at Trinity, Jasper.

A Prayer for Those in Mourning
Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding: Deal graciously with Carol and her family, and the friends and families of all involved, in their grief. Surround them with your love, that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss, but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the days to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers for the Departed
Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Joe. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

Father of all, we pray to you for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. And may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
